    Third Grade Curriculum

Third grade at Kingsley School is an exciting year as students explore many new topics.  Literacy is a strong component of the third grade curriculum, helping students develop into critical readers and writers.  Reading comprehension and critical thinking are taught through both fiction and non-fiction text.  In writing, students develop multi-paragraph essays in the narrative, expository, and persuasive genres using the six traits.  In math, children explore in depth the concepts of operations and algebraic thinking, number and operations in base ten, number and operations-fractions, measurement and data, and geometry.  Problem solving is also a key element of the math program.  Science unfolds for students as they study the units of Solar System, Light, and Habitats.  Social Science continues to build the concept of community as third graders learn about the systems of a community and how those systems change over time, by focusing on Medieval Europe and Japan.  Third grade is indeed a year of challenge and learning.
