  • District 203 Health Service Philosophy


    School Health Services recognize that an individual’s education and growth is related to their physical, mental and emotional well-being.

    District 203 believes:

    • Each individual is valuable and the development of his/her potential is the first responsibility of education.
    • The acquisition of skills necessary to maintain a healthy state is a cardinal component of education.
    • An effective school health program requires the cooperative involvement of family, school, community agencies, and medical disciplines.
    • School Health Services provides a unique contribution to the development of concepts of wellness in students, families, and community.
    • A maturing student should be able to face social situations and life problems with increasing judgment as to his/ her role and acceptance of it. Recognition of health issues should be fostered as a civic responsibility.


    Communicable Diseases

    On March 5, 2024, the CDC announced that they are streamlining COVID-19 guidance for isolation to be in line with all respiratory viruses, and to make guidance simple, clear and easy to understand.

    • If you are sick stay home
    • Seek testing and treatment (particularly if at high risk for severe disease)
    • Return to normal activities when symptoms have been getting better overall for 24 hours, and if a fever was present, it has been gone for 24 hours without use of a fever-reducing medication.
      • Once people resume normal activities, they are encouraged to take precautions for the next 5 days to curb disease spread, such as:
        • Taking more steps for cleaner air,
        • Enhancing hygiene practices,
        • Wearing a well-fitting mask,
        • Keeping a distance from others, and/or
        • Getting testing to inform your actions to prevent spread to others. 

    Naperville 203 does not require testing, isolation or masking.

Health Services at Elmwood

  • Elmwood School Health and Attendance Office: 630-420-6343

    Elmwood School's Health and Attendance Office is located inside the main school office. A qualified Health Technician is available during school hours from 8:15 am to 2:30 pm. A Certified School Nurse (CSN) is also available when needed. If your child has a special health concern, is taking prescribed medications, or has known allergies, please notify both your child's teacher and the health office.

    To report an absence, late arrival or expected early dismissal, please call the Elmwood Health Office/Attendance Line 630-420-6343 prior to 7:45 am. The answering machine is available at any time during the day or night. Please do not email absence information as there may be a substitute in the Health Office. Leave a voice message indicating:
    • student's name
    • date of the absence
    • reason for the student's absence
    • name of the classroom teacher
    • grade level of the student

Health Services Contact Information

Certified School Nurse (CSN)

  • The Certified School Nurse (CSN) is a Bachelor’s-prepared registered nurse who has a multi-faceted role within the school setting. This role supports the physical, mental, emotional, and social health of students and their success in the learning process. To that end, school nurses facilitate normal development and positive student response to interventions, promote health and safety including a healthy environment, intervene with actual and potential health problems, provide case management services, and actively collaborate with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self-management, self-advocacy and learning. District 203 school nurses are Bachelor’s- or Master’s-prepared registered nurses who also hold a Professional Educator License endorsed in School Nursing as defined by the Illinois State Board of Education. School nurses are certified vision and hearing screening technicians through the Illinois Department of Public Health and American Heart Association CPR/AED instructors. Health Technician

  • Health Technicians provide clerical assistance and technical support in school health offices and optimize the delivery of comprehensive school health services. Health Technicians work under the direction of the Certified School Nurse.  All health technicians are CPR/AED and First Aid certified.  Health technicians may also be certified vision and hearing screeners.
